When buying fresh Irish brown crab, ensure it is alive, refrigerated or well iced. Purchasing it at the end of the shopping trip and placing it in the fridge as soon as possible will help to maintain the brown crab at the correct temperature.

Live Irish brown crab can stay alive for three to four days if they are kept cold and damp, ideally in the bottom of your fridge covered with a damp cloth. When cooked they can be stored in the coldest part of the fridge for up to four days.
